  • Wellesley College: Local college reports outbreak of suspected swine flu

    Friday, September 18, 2009

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Flu concerns are hitting a local college after dozens of students reportedly have flu-like symptoms.
Cases of swine flu are showing up on college campuses across the country.
At Wellesley College, close to 60 students reportedly have flu-like symptoms.
"My lab partner was actually quarantined and I realized I'm actually in close proximity to people who might have the swine flu," said Beilin Ye, a Wellesley College student.
The college wants their students with flu symptoms to self-isolate themselves and call health services on campus. Students were also asked to monitor their temperature with a thermometer.
"We're asking students to stay in their rooms and monitor their temperatures," said Dr. Vanessa Britto of Wellesley College.

At least 13 cases of swine flu were reported at Boston University.

    WELLESLEY
Twelve Wellesley College students, down from the 20 reported Friday, have reported swine flu-like symptoms. Earlier this week, nearly 60 students said they had flu-like symptoms, the college reported. ?The figure of 60 was a total number, most of which have cleared,?? said Arlie Corday, a spokeswoman for the college. ?The symptoms have been mild and lasting two to three days.?? ?Influenza-like illness has been reported by students daily for about a week. Each day this week, we have had on average one to two dozen students in self-isolation,?? the college said.
