    Week 40: No Activity
    During the week of October 2 to October 8, 2011, influenza activity in Maryland was minimal. Only one influenza-associated hospitalization was reported. That hospitalization was not confirmed by reference laboratory testing, only by a screening test.

    ED ILI: 1.1%
    0.3% positive for influenza (B detected)

    During the week of October 2 to October 8, 2011, influenza activity in Maryland continued to be minimal. Two influenza-associated hospitalizations were reported. Those hospitalizations were not confirmed by reference laboratory testing, only by screening tests. The State Laboratories Administration received 9 specimens for influenza testing by PCR. None were positive.

    During week 41, one outbreak of pneumonia was reported to DHMH.

          During week 44, there was one outbreak of pneumonia reported to DHMH. That outbreak was attributed to Legionella bacteria, not influenza.

          During week 45, there was one outbreak of pneumonia reported to DHMH. That outbreak was attributed to Legionella bacteria, not influenza.

                During week 52, the DHMH Laboratories Administration received a total of 36 specimens for influenza testing by PCR. One specimen tested positive for type A (H3) influenza.
                No outbreaks were reported this week.

                          During week 5 of 2012, the DHMH Laboratories Administration received a total of 59 specimens for influenza testing by PCR. Three were positive for type A H1N1 influenza, and three were positive for type A H3. (10.1% positive)

                          During week 5 of 2012, there were two reported outbreaks of respiratory disease. One was a confirmed influenza outbreak, and the other was an outbreak of influenza-like illness.
