Flu cases on the rise in Louisiana

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there have been over 490,000 reported cases of the flu this season in the United States.
Of those numbers, Louisiana currently leads the nation with the highest number of early flu activity.
The national average is approximately 3.5% which means roughly every 1 in 20 people may get the flu. However, in Louisiana, that number is right around 11% which means 1 in every 10 people may catch the flu.

“About 30% of all cases of the flu in the state are in people 0 to 4, and then when we add ages 5 to 11, it’s another 13%. So, you’re getting about 45%, right, 11 and below, said Martha Whyte, LDH’s regional medical director.
