    We're told she died from the H1N1 flu, also known as the swine flu.

    The county health officer tells WSBT she had a pre-existing health problem, and she had not gotten a flu shot.

    SOUTH BEND -- A 25-year-old St. Joseph County woman died last month from the H1N1 flu virus, the St. Joseph County Health Department confirmed on Thursday.

    St. Joseph County health officer Dr. Thomas Felger said the woman was initially hospitalized locally before being transferred to a hospital in Chicago, where she later died.

      In St. Joseph County alone, the flu is suspected of playing a role in the recent deaths of four residents. The oldest was age 39. The youngest was age 25.

      ?That?s relatively extraordinary,? said Thomas Felger, M.D., St. Joseph County Health Officer. ?So, hopefully people will be out yet today getting their flu shots.?

      The one thing all of the victims had in common?none had received a flu shot...

        With 6 deaths, St. Joseph Co. hardest hit by flu in Indiana

        The Indiana State Department of health says influenza-related deaths in Indiana are now at 11. They say six of those occurred in St. Joseph County, making it the hardest-hit county by far.

        ...all but one of the deaths occurred in individuals between the ages of 25 to 64.
