    POSTED: 2:12 pm PDT July 29, 2009
    UPDATED: 2:17 pm PDT July 29, 2009

SAN DIEGO -- Four more deaths associated with the swine flu were confirmed in San Diego County, local health officials announced Wednesday.

The latest victims were all women -- ages 30, 41, 50 and 53 -- and all had underlying medical conditions, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency.

The 41-year-old was visiting the area when she fell ill and will not be included in local statistics, according to the HHSA. Instead, her death will be counted in her undisclosed state of residence, county health officials said.

So far, there have been 735 confirmed cases of H1N1 influenza in San Diego County and a dozen deaths, according to the HHSA.

County health officials encouraged people to stay home from work or school if they have flu-like symptoms, including fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.

Those with underlying medical conditions experiencing flu-like symptoms should contact their doctor, according to the HHSA.

Re: LA County deaths from AH1N1 virus should be 17, not 8

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - July 13+
LA Times finally wrote a article on the pandemic today

      quote 1:
" As of July 16, health officials throughout the state stopped monitoring individuals who contract the H1N1 virus because doing so was sapping too many resources.."

Discrepancy between la county deaths ,17, and what the state DPH reports, 8. That is nine LA County deaths not reported to the state dept of health.

      quote 2:

"With a much larger population, Los Angeles County has 135 hospitalizations and 17 deaths -- though the state is reporting eight deaths in the county. That's up from 62 hospitalizations and three deaths as of July 11, said Dr. Laurene Mascola, chief of the acute communicable disease control program of the county Department of Public Health.....
There is great variation in when cases are reported to the state by counties and hospitals. For example, L.A. County, which gets data from 100 hospitals, said it had not sent 20 to 30 cases to the state. There are also delays in receiving reports and lab confirmation. And each locality releases its updates at different times: the state on Thursdays, Orange County daily, San Diego County on Wednesdays, some areas almost haphazardly."

There is great undereporting of cases in LA County. 10 miilion poplulation (over 1/4th of state's total poplulation ) and only 8 officially confirmed deaths from A H1N1 virus.
