ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A third Alaskan has died from complications related to swine flu, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services said Tuesday.
The middle-aged woman from Seward was suffering from a cough and fever and was admitted to Providence Alaska Medical Center on Aug. 15. She passed away Aug. 28 from respiratory problems. DHSS says she also had a pre-existing medical condition.
The state virology lab confirmed that a sample taken from the woman tested positive for the H1N1 virus, also known as swine flu.
Previous Alaska deaths related to the flu had been limited to children.
