In a phone conversation this morning with an AK DHSS influenza help person, they mentioned that if the vaccine supply vs. vaccine demand continues as is, they may allow anyone who wants a vaccine to get one - within about 2 weeks.

Man's flu death brings total to 11
Last Modified: December 5th, 2009 12:33 AM
Alaska had its 11th reported flu death of the year last week. A middle-aged man from Kodiak died last Saturday at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage of complications from the flu, the state Health and Social Services Department reported Thursday.
It was most likely swine flu, but he wasn't tested for the specific type of flu, said health department spokesman Greg Wilkinson.
The state health department is not aware of any underlying health conditions that might have contributed to the man's death. In most other Alaska swine flu deaths, the victims did have other health problems.

Re: Alaska - Week 52
THere is another ILI-type bug in AK at the moment. I don't know what it is, just hearing lots of complaints. It's probably the latest version of what happens when everyone stays inside because it's so cold.
Today I heard a new fact that may explain unusual disease epidemology here:
" If New York City had the same population density as Alaska, only 16 people would be living in Manhattan"

Re: Alaska - confirmed 1/12: ILI hospitalized increasing, no new deaths
There is an increase in hospitalizations for ILI, but no new deaths. It may be due to the intergenerational mixing during the holidays. Hoopefully it won't be repeating the late January/February waves seen in 1957 H2N2.
