    Riverside County Public Health reported a new case of mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) on Monday.

    County spokesperson Jose Arballo Jr. said in an email the person is a man, over the age of 40, and is from the Coachella Valley. The city of residence or vaccination status was not shared.

    There have been a total of 319 mpox cases reported in Riverside County since the start of the outbreak last spring.

    This is the first case reported in the county since July 6.

    Mpox cases have been on the rise in California. Reported cases of mpox in California have increased to nearly 17 per week after averaging less than seven cases per week in July and August, according to the California Department of Public Health. Nearby in San Diego County, 11 new cases were reported during the month of October.​..
