- Monkeypox contaminated waste management practices can differ depending on the strain of monkeypox virus. The West African clade of Monkeypox viruses are now recognized as Category B waste. Facilities should also comply with state and local regulations for handling, storage, treatment, and disposal of waste. (CDC)
