    ANNAPOLIS, MD — A Cecil County poultry farm has tested positive for highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza (HPAI) and state and federal agriculture authorities -- while not identifying what it referred to as "the index farm" -- did say it was a commercial layer operation and it is now under strict quarantine.

    The affected flock was destroyed, according to Cassie Shirk, spokeswoman for Maryland Department of Agriculture.

    WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been confirmed at a Washington County farm, according to the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA).

    The MDA, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and National Veterinary Services Laboratory confirmed poultry tested positive for H5N1.

    State officials have quarantined all affected premises, and birds on the properties have been depopulated to prevent the spread of the disease. Birds or poultry products from affected flocks will not enter the food supply chain...
