A town in Arkansas with less than 2,000 residents has been put on a mandatory civil emergency curfew due to increased violence in the area.

The city of Eudora in southern Arkansas has a population of roughly 1,684 people. On Tuesday, the city's mayor, Tomeka Butler, released a video on the city's Facebook page announcing the curfew. The curfew went into effect immediately for all citizens. The curfew is from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and is enforced by Eudora City Police Department...

EUDORA, Ark. — Update (12/29/2022): Eudora Mayor Tomeka Butler announced during a town hall on Thursday that the city has extended its ongoing curfew through Monday, Jan. 3 at 6 a.m. due to the state of civil emergency.

"This action was taken to protect every family in the city," Butler said. "No matter race, age, or where you live. Families all over are hurting from these senseless acts. Our elderly, my people of wisdom, they are afraid."
