Pro-democracy parties on Tuesday pressed the government to deliver major cash handouts in its budget next week to everyone affected by the coronavirus crisis – including special subsidies for people who’ve lost their jobs, or forced to take unpaid leave.
The Civic Party on Tuesday joined calls from political groups across the political spectrum for the government to hand out HK$10,000 to all Hong Kong residents; but added that this should just be the beginning of a series of one-off payments to address what party leader Alvin Yeung described as a “very, very special situation.”
