New Hippocratic Oath? - "First, do no harm (to the bottom line)"
Re: New Hippocratic Oath? - "First, do no harm (to the bottom line)"
I wanted to add that every one of us, who through judicious planning and preparation, stays healthy or has no more than a mild case, releases one more hospital bed, one more ventilator, one more dose of anti-viral or other medication, and eliminates one more difficult decision from having to be made about allocation of resources.
Then, perhaps, societies may want to have some people re-swear the Hippocratic Oath, because I have seen some that have forgotten it so much that I had to scream it at them. And I'm certain this is the case in many countries, not just mine. If one may not agree that society lays the rules, at least then society ought to offer a true debate on this issue, and possibly lay general guidelines or publish a consensus reached after thoroughly examining this question.
Yes, absolutely. I doubt there would ever be a consensus, but it's essential to talk about it. Unfortunately, opinion seems to be so polarized everywhere these days that it's hard to keep discussion from deteriorating into open battle. But there should still be an attempt.
