Antigripais may mask symptoms of swine flu, says Anvisa

The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) temporarily suspended the advertising of medicines against the flu because of the rising cases of influenza A (H1N1) - Swine flu - in Brazil. According to the resolution, the suspension is necessary because these drugs are able to mask a situation of risk in the case of influenza A (H1N1) - Swine flu.

The Anvisa are drugs on that list based on acetylsalicylic acid, and also drugs for the relief of symptoms of influenza, such as paracetamol, ibuprofen and sodium dipirone are in this group. Although products affected by the measure's effectiveness and safety are well known and may be useful in the treatment of symptoms of influenza, the intention of the Anvisa is that the use of these drugs is absolutely solid.

Resolution 43 published in Official Gazette of the Union this Friday, as a measure of interest in health and temporarily, suspend the entire national territory in the advertisements published in all media, including the Internet of products based on acid acetylsalicylic. The measure had been anticipated by columnist Ancelmo Góis, the newspaper O Globo.

The text also provides for the interruption of commercial sales of other medicines free prescription with analgesic properties and antipyretics.

In announcing 15 more deaths by influenza A in Rio Grande do Sul, the State Department of Health confirmed yesterday that the virus is more lethal as the profile of the victim. Survey of Zero Hora showed that almost two thirds of the 70 deaths in the state - 62% - fall within the risk groups.

The obese and pregnant women, which became priority for treatment in hospitals and health posts, still occupy the top of the list of records fatal: together, represent 21% of cases. The progression of the disease in the state suggests, however, a diversity among the risk factors that have led or contributed to the death of patients.

Diabetic, hypertensive heart disease and should not be neglected. These comorbidities put together 10 cases so far. Another group that draws attention are the people with a mental disability, with five records. Yesterday, two people with Down Syndrome were in the list released by the government gaucho. The list is wide and reaches up to epileptics and schizophrenia.

The statistics point to another curiosity: children and the elderly, the health authorities pointed as priorities within the risk groups are not among the main victims. Of the 70 victims, 51 were between 20 and 49 years. Only four were over 60 and two under four years.
