    March 10, 2010, 20:08La Paz, Mar 10 (Prensa Latina) The Bolivian Health Ministry said Monday that the country is prepared to contain a new wave of influenza A (H1N1), which already reported its first case this year.

    We are capable enough to contain a new wave of the pandemic, said the head of Influenza Program, Ren? Lenis, after explaining that with vaccines, drugs and protective gear for medical staff.

    Lenis said that currently have 400 thousand doses for vaccination against influenza, and in the coming days will acquire 900 thousand doses.

    The doctor added that have a significant stock of the antiviral oseltamivir, and said his ministry runs the epidemiological control of the first case reported in the tropical capital of Trinidad, Beni (northeastern).

    It is becoming the focus of infection control by tracking the contacts of the 11-year old carrier of the disease, he said.

    For its part, Health Minister, Sonia Polo, said that at the end of this month will launch a national campaign for 45 days to vaccinate people against influenza.

    Last year in Bolivia were more than two thousand 500 confirmed cases of influenza A (H1N1) and registered 59 deaths.
