        The first case of monkeypox was confirmed in the country on June 26. In just over three months, a total of 2,687 people have contracted the disease in 19 regions of Peru.

        According to the latest report from the Ministry of Health (Minsa), only on Saturday, October 8, 27 new patients with monkeypox were diagnosed. To date, 2,291 people have successfully completed their isolation and outpatient treatment period and have been discharged. Minsa personnel maintain surveillance of 396 people.

        Lima concentrates the vast majority of cases

        According to the data provided by the National Center for Epidemiology, Prevention and Control of Diseases of the Minsa, 2,083 cases were diagnosed in Metropolitan Lima, that is, 77.52% of infections occurred in the capital.

        The platform also indicates that 68.5% of the cases are men who have sex with men, while 15% are under investigation.

        In addition, 56.4% were previously diagnosed with HIV, of which 85.6% received their antiretroviral therapy, while 7.66% stopped receiving it.

        Updated technical standard

        The Minsa updated the provisions of the technical health standard for the prevention and management of patients affected by monkeypox, in order to protect the life and health of the vulnerable population affected by this disease and thus reduce damage health or possible complications.

        These are the preventive measures:

        Health sector campaigns will now promote the following prevention measures to avoid contracting the monkeypox virus:
