The water situation in the country will be a problem too. I'm in central Texas. We're on a well here. It runs on electricity. If the power goes off, so does the water.
Solar powered water pumps are a solution to this problem. e.g Dankoff solar pump.
Water in cities and towns that depend on water treatment will be in trouble regardless if the power stays on. The treatment plants have 3-5 days worth of chemicals on hand according to Dr. Osterholm. The water will cause illnesses we haven't seen in decades (or more). ...
There are gravity feed water purification systems with ceramic filters that require no chemicals or power. e.g. Big Berkey

This is a great topic JJ.
What about the treatment facility, if it's not "treating", then I'm assuming their tanks fill and back the whole system?
If neighborhood lines back up...it could be enough to drive everyone out of their homes. Is there a way to shut your house off from the main line so backup can not occur?
