The Northern Territory's Health Minister, Kon Vatskalis, is in voluntary home quarantine with suspected swine flu.

Kon Vatskalis developed flu-like symptoms after returning from a trip to Melbourne at the weekend.

He has been tested for human swine influenza and is now staying at his Darwin home with his family.

He is taking the anti-viral drug Tamiflu as a precaution.

He was around several important people before his symptoms hit.

"A cabinet meeting on Tuesday; [a] meeting with the Chinese ambassador before my symptoms; I was sitting near the [Northern Territory] Leader of the Opposition during that time," he said.

Cabinet will operate as normal, he says.

"Government will still run, Opposition will run, the system will still run."

His test results should be known this afternoon.

Meanwhile, a teacher from Ross Park Primary School in Alice Springs has tested positive to human swine influenza.

The female teacher has been placed in home quarantine.

The school will remain closed for the rest of the week.
