In the picture Dr. Alfonso Nettle, a pediatrician specializing in cardiology at the Hospital Universitario de Guadalajara.
The submission of this case at an international conference held in London has received valuable congratulations from renowned experts from around the world.

The Department of Pediatrics, University Hospital of Guadalajara, under the Government of Castilla-La Mancha, has achieved great international acclaim through participation in the last Congress 'Excellence in Pediatrics', held in London.

Alfonso Nettle, a pediatrician specializing in cardiology, was asked to submit, before an audience of renowned experts from around the world, which has become the first case reported in the world of Kawasaki disease and influenza A virus in a pediatric patient 11 months of age.

Thus, the submission by the hospital from Guadalajara, 'Kawasaki disiese and H1N1 influenza viruses: a case report', won a major impact on those present to Congress, which included in its ranks the top hospitals and universities in the field of Pediatrics, and the Boston Children's Hospital & Harvard Medical School.

And thanks to that presentation, this work has been published, along with the rest of the scientific activity of the meeting in the prestigious medical journal Acta Paediatrica. "

    Kawasaki disease

Kawasaki disease is an acute vasculitis affecting children, potentially dangerous for coronary involvement (coronary artery aneurysms) and is considered the leading cause of acquired heart disease in children.

Its etiology is unknown but is related to an infectious origin, especially with the virus and its diagnosis is based on clinical manifestations: fever, lymphadenopathy, oral abnormalities, ocular involvement, generalized rash, peeling of fingers ...

In addition, in between 15 and 25 percent of the cases, along with Kawasaki disease appears to heart disease.

The treatment is based on high-dose aspirin and intravenous gamma globulin, clearly improving the prognosis with early treatment with immunoglobulin.

The case presented by Dr. nettle in London is that of a child diagnosed 11 months in the winter of 2009 from this disease by the Department of Pediatrics, University Hospital of Guadalajara, as well as infection with influenza A H1N1 virus.

Following a cardiac study, an alteration is further confirmed coronary, starting treatment with gamma globulin with favorable clinical response and normalization of the coronary arteries, thus the overall development of children was very positive, thanks to early diagnosis and proper treatment.

Thus, this case has been recognized important for several reasons, both for epidemiological reasons (the first case reported in the literature of Kawasaki disease and pandemic H1N1), for clinical reasons, given the difficulty of using acid treatment high-dose aspirin in influenza virus infection and the risk of developing Reye syndrome.
