Monkeypox cases increase in Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo, RD- During the course of the year, six cases of the monkeypox virus (mpox) have been confirmed in the Dominican Republic. Meanwhile, 19 suspected cases were ruled out.
The cases detected this year have all been in adults, according to the director of Epidemiology, Ronald Skewes, who also explained that the country maintains active surveillance of the virus and the continuity of the samples. This to identify the new strain.
Let us remember that, in July 2022, the first case of the disease in the country was detected in a 25-year-old Dominican from the United States.
