  • CDC now shows 9 Tamiflu resistant viruses in US

From a footnote in this week's FluView.

?Three state public health laboratories perform antiviral resistance testing and report their results to CDC. An additional two oseltamivir resistant 2009 influenza A (H1N1) viruses have been identified by these laboratories, bringing the total number to nine.

Officially less than1%. But a month ago the US officially had none. If it were random I would think we should see the other polymorphisms that convey Tamiflu resistance, but worldwide it is all H274Y.

I have reason to believe FL contributed at least one of the new cases.

The Florida may not pan out, but the case in Dallas (do you have a link?) may not be one of them. Two of the cases are from state(s) that do their own testing. Texas does not do its own.

Death is from last week. I suppose it is not impossible that it was 1 of the two announced in the Week 32 surveillance, since that wasn't posted until this week. If it is not then this seems to be case 10 in the US, since it seems unlikely to be one of the two from the new FluView.

How long does it take for the results to come back on a resistance test?
