The news service of the industrial poultry portal Pticainfo.ru reports that an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza caused by the H5N8 virus subtype has been registered in Afghanistan.
According to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), the primary epizootic outbreak originated in the northwestern province of Herat - at a poultry farm located near the border with Iran. 794 heads of poultry died from the disease. Another 22 thousand were destroyed during the implementation of veterinary and sanitary measures at the poultry farm itself and the surrounding five farms. In one of them, the virus infected 100% of the livestock.
