Disinformation technique, or reporting error. Either way, they've got to be better than this.....you can't make this mistake. There are issues with the translation from Arabic to English of the names of several diseases. Not sure if that's the root cause of the error here.
Two more hostages have been released from Hamas custody, multiple sources tell CNN. The hostages are Israeli citizens, a source says. An Israeli official says both hostages are women.

The health ministry in the besieged coastal enclave has said that many cases of chickenpox and scabies have been reported by medical staff in various areas.
Diarrhoea, especially among children, is also spreading due to lack of hygiene and the use of untreated water, it added in a statement.

Come on CNN - get with it. Don't just casually report a smallpox outbreak in Gaza with no details. Get an editor who knows something about infectious diseases to take a look at your copy BEFORE it goes out on the wires.
