This past Friday, Yale New Haven Health hosted a press conference to emphasize the importance of receiving both the flu and RSV vaccines early in the season. Vaccination is a vital step in protecting vulnerable populations — including older adults, young children, and those with underlying health conditions — from serious illness, hospitalizations, and complications.
Mayor Justin Elicker, Connecticut Department of Public Health Commissioner Manisha Juthani, MD, Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz, and several other community leaders rolled up their sleeves and received their vaccinations during the event, setting an example for the public.

Also speaking at the event were Katherine Heilpern, MD, president, Yale New Haven Hospital; Thomas Murray, MD, associate medical director of Infection Prevention at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital and professor of Pediatrics (Infectious Disease) at Yale School of Medicine; Connecticut State Comptroller Sean Scanlon; and Maritza Bond, Director of Health for the City of New Haven.
