The links below are for free US Navy cookbooks from early 1900's. US Naval food rations per man were mandated by law. Just the thought of trying to prepare meals for 100 men in a ship's galley of the time boggles my mind. I imagine the stoves and ovens were fueled by coal, the same fuels that would power the vessels. This food was prepared under what today would be considered by some as less than ideal conditions with equipment that few today would be able to opperate. Some of the recipes look good.
