As noted above, 5000 Tamiflu tablets were dispatched to the infected area and at least 500 have been distributed (see post #19). Assuming the health authorities are using a single course (10 tablets for five days) followed by a double course (20 tablets for 5 days) in each of the suspected cases, the remaining 4500 tablets will only cover 150 individuals. With 163 suspected cases, the health authorities do not have enough stock of Tamiflu for an effective "Tamiflu blanket" for all these individuals. If in fact H5N1 is spreading H2H it will become obvious in the next 72+ hours unless more antivirals are rushed to the area.

Reports are not describing a high severity or lethality in these cases, so this might be other disease involved as most of the times. Although, we don't know how a bird flu pandemic will result. Then, tracking the news for possible H5N1 cases in undeveloped nations is vital.

Yes, it's clear that 37 patients with flu-like symptoms are undergoing treatment in Garut (H5 destected in poultry) and some of them are described by the media as severe influenza cases, but it's not clear what parameters they use to say mild-moderate-severe.
