Tren the Case of Bird Flu continued to descend
    Kamis, 4 September 2008 | 14:20 WIB

Jakarta, on Thursday - the Case of bird flu to humankind in the world including in Indonesia continued showed tren the decline in this year. In Indonesia for example, for the last three months only was found in general through to two cases per the month and far more lower against months beforehand.

"Was thought by me tren him all of them descended." All over the world, not only in Indonesia, the case to humankind continued to descend. For the last three years in fact very low that is only one two cases in a month. Very low compared with beforehand, said the Harian Chief Executive of the Nasional Pengendalian Committee of Bird Flu and Menghadapi Pandemi Influenza Preparedness (Komnas FBPI), Bayu Krisnamurthi, in Jakarta, on Thursday (4/9).

Tren the decline in the case in Indonesia indeed began apparently since the beginning 2008 this. The Departemen data of the Health at the beginning of the second semester 2008 also showed, the number of cases of bird flu to humankind descended. Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari in fact stated the number of cases was that was lowered compared to the case that happened in 2005, 2006 and 2007. (kompas.com on June 19 2008)

The decline in the number of cases, according to Bayu was the positive indication, although tren this continued to have to be guarded against in view of the fact that the risk of increasing continued to be available. "The decline the positive sign, although should not make us fall asleep." The risk was still continuing to be because of flu brung was endemic, his virus was still continuing to be round us, said Bayu.

The decline in the number of cases to humankind, continued the official of the Deputy the Perekonomian Co-ordinating Minister, including could be caused by many factors like the increase in participation and the awareness of the community through to the quality of the handling of the patient who was increasingly good in the hospital.

The "community is currently more preceptive, more understood in the handling" of the "case." They were more careful to have the chicken died et cetera. Knowledge about bird flu also rose significantly. Treatment him (in the hospital) possibly increasingly has advanced, his methodology was also more just right. Afterwards the breeders also more have understood in guarding his livestock, obviously him

The Badan Kesehatan data of the World (WHO) per June 19 2008 showed for the last three years in Indonesia was recorded by 110 deaths from the total 135 cases of bird flu to humankind. Around 60 percent death in this happened in the Jakarta territory that had the population 30 million people.

Indonesian Authorities Report First Bird Flu Case Since June

By Leony Aurora and Jason Gale
Sept. 9 (Bloomberg) -- Bird flu killed a truck driver on
Indonesia's Java island in July, the health ministry said in its first reported case of the illness in almost three months.
The 38-year-old man from Banten province became ill on July 4, was hospitalized in Tangerang city five days later and died the next day, the Ministry of Health said in a statement on its Web site yesterday. Tests confirmed on July 11 he had the H5N1 strain of avian influenza. Test results from samples taken from poultry in the man's neighborhood are pending, the ministry said.
Prior to this case, the most recent avian flu cases in
Indonesia were reported by the World Health Organization on June 19, when the Geneva-based agency recorded 135 infections, including 110 fatalities, in the nation. Indonesia accounts for more than a third of the global cases of H5N1, the virus strain world health officials say may mutate into a more contagious form capable of touching off a lethal pandemic.
Indonesia's Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari said on June 6 that the government would delay reporting new avian flu-deaths by six months. She didn't give a reason for the decision.
Calls and a text message to a spokeswoman at the Indonesian health ministry seeking comment weren't immediately returned.
The H5N1 flu strain is known to have infected 385 people in 15 countries since 2003, according to the WHO. Almost two of every three cases were fatal. Most infections were caused by contact with infected poultry, such as children playing with them or adults butchering them or plucking feathers, according to the WHO.
Laboratory tests conducted by the Indonesian health
ministry's research center and the Eijkman Institute have found no evidence of human-to-human transmission in samples from five provinces, the ministry said in yesterday's statement.
Twelve Indonesian provinces have recorded human H5N1 infections, though cases haven't been reported in at least 10 months in seven of them, the ministry said.

Indonesia's bird flu death toll rises to 112
                        --------------------------------------------
The worst-hit country by the deadly bird flu disease, on Tuesday [9
Sep 2008] reported another death, taking the toll to 112, the Health
Ministry said. According to the ministry, a 38-year-old cargo truck
driver from Tangerang in Banten Province, near Jakarta, developed
bird flu symptoms of fever, coughing and respiratory problems on 4
Jul 2008 but was not hospitalised until 4 days later. He died 10 Jul
2008. The ministry said chickens and ducks around the man's house are
                        being tested.

Health Minister Siti Fadillah Supari has said the number of bird flu
cases surfacing in Indonesia is on the decline, according to the Indo
Pos newspaper, based in the East Java provincial capital of Surabaya.
"The number of bird flu cases tends to decrease because the patients
infected by the virus have received appropriate and quick medical
treatment," she was quoted as saying Monday [8 Sep 2008].

Avian influenza has infected at least 385 people in 15 countries
since its reemergence in December 2003, with at least 243 of them
having died, according to the World Health Organisation figures
released in mid-June [2008]. Indonesia leads the table with 110
deaths, not including the last 2 cases announced on 3 Aug 2008 and
Tuesday [9 Sep 2008], followed by Viet Nam with 52 deaths, Egypt with
                        22 and China with 20.

The other affected countries are Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Cambodia,
Djibouti, Iraq, Laos, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand and Turkey.

The Indonesian health minister is presenting very confusing information....

""Laboratory tests conducted by the Indonesian health ministry's research center and the Eijkman Institute have found no evidence of human-to-human transmission in samples from 5 provinces, the ministry said in yesterday's statement. ""

I doubt if anyone knows what to really look for as evidence of human-to-human transmission by looking at the samples but if the international community could look at these samples it would help in understanding the evolution of the virus as well as in developing newer diagositics and vaccines... ((minor changes around the receptor binding domain and other areas could be very significant but this would take more detailed analysis as well as correlation with the presumed increase in transmission rates implied by an increase in the number of confimed cases as alluded to below))

"""The number of bird flu cases tends to decrease because the patients infected by the virus have received appropriate and quick medical treatment," she was quoted as saying Monday.""

What?? Is she talking about the number of 'fatal' bird flu cases... I don't think we've heard of many cases that have been treated quickly and successfully. This definitely seems to imply that Indonesia has seen other cases that have been positive for H5N1. It seems very irresponsible to put out information such as this without further details.. How many patients?, how bad were the symptoms?, what treatment proved useful? If correct this information could point to a significantly lower case fatality rate in Indonesia which would be of much interest. But, let's see the details...

I agree the information is confusing and deflects from the health minister's valid concerns about "big pharma" profits and global revenue sharing.
