Ministry of Health at this time is designing a development of research facility and production technology change of avian influenza for human. This vaccine can be verify for vaccine production in controlling AH1N1 influenza or more popular as swine flu.

This project was focused in two places, they are : Surabaya Airlangga University for preparing seed vaccine and Level-3 Bio safety (BSL 3) and PT.Biofarma Bandung for Chicken Breeding, production facility of industry scale vaccine

It was said by Ministry of Health, Dr. dr. Siti Fadilah Supari, Sp. JP(K) when opening National Meeting of Evaluation and Program of Disease Control and Environmental Health which was attended by 200 participants from MOH, selected Province Health Office and the chef of Integrated Service Unit (the 48 chef of Port Health Office, 10 chef of BBTKL-PPM and Director of Sulianti Saroso Infected Disease Hospital), Sunday night, May 10, 2009 in Bandung.

According to Minister of Health, to control avian influenza and anticipated it not to enter to Indonesia , MOH had determined some policies and strategies to eliminate or control problem and challenge of Multiple Burden Diseases.

Other policies are:

? To stabilize knowledge and understanding of all stake holders of developer towards health development values, that are, side with community, fast and accurate, team work, high integrity, transparent and accountable in doing any activities including project implementation.

? To stabilize 4 grand strategies as Health Development pillar including disease control and environmental health such as : to move and empower community to live healthy, to improve community access towards a quality health service, to improve surveillance system, to monitor health information system and to improve health budgeting.

? Capacity and Competency Building signed by organization structures between DG of non communicable disease, the class improving of Technical Implementation Unit (UPT), Dg of DC&EH, such as :7 Port Health Office (KKP) become first and fourth class of Environmental Health Technical Unit and Disease Control and Prevention (BTKL-PPM) become a big unit.

Besides those challenges, Minister of Health added that various succeed has been achieved in health development which is signed by the decreasing of Infant Mortality Rate (IMPR) from 35 become 26,9 per 1000 life birth, mother mortality rate ( MMR ) from 307 become 228 per 100.000 life birth, under five mal nutrition from 25.8% and the increasing of life expectancy from 66.2 become 70.6.

Those succeed of government success by all components, whether in central or local especially in health provider as a main point who gives a direct service to community, said minister.

In her speech, Minister of Health hoped that all stake holders who were involved whether directly or indirectly can do this activity by noticing process and performance result of the previous years as evidence based and lessons learnt for the next planning and implementation. Besides that, identification of center and local resource through planning and implementation of integrated and comprehensive activity. Try and develop a cooperative activity by empowering all stake holders including community and private.

Jakarta - Haze from forest burnings and ground fires blanketed parts of Indonesia's Riau province on eastern Sumatra Friday, forcing schools to close, state media said Tuesday.

The head of Riau's Rokan Hilir district environment agency, Suma al-Falah, was quoted as saying by the state-run Antara news agency that a number of elementary schools in the area had been shut indefinitely to prevent students suffering from respiratory-related ailments.

According to data based on satellite imagery, as many as 159 forest and plantation fire hotspots were detected in Riau. Thick smoke covers most of the province.

Schools will reopen when the haze situation has improved, Suma said, adding that efforts are underway to extinguish the fires.

Health authorities also appealed to residents to stay indoors and limit outdoor activity.

The haze is often blamed on farmers and other landowners who set fire to scrubland and forest to clear land for cultivation. It is an annual phenomenon in Indonesia and worsens during the dry season.

Indonesia banned the practice of open-field burning in 1999 after the widespread fires of 1997 and 1998 caused a choking haze to also blanket parts of Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore.
