Residential school for SC/ST closed for 10 days

Even as the Kerala government has taken all measures to check the outbreak of viral fever, including H1N1, in the state, a residential school for the Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes in the city has been closed for ten days with the confirmation of three students effected with H1N1 infection.
The three girls students aged 11 and studying in sixth class at the Ayyankali Memoral Residential Sports School for ST and SC Vellayani in the district were tested positive for H1N1 infection, forcing the school authorities to shut down the school till July five as a precautionry measure.
Following the incident, 79 students, including 38 girls, were put under observation and started therapeutic course (five days) of Oseltamivir tablets in order to check the disease as advised by the Distict Medical Authorites, girls hostel warden Bindu told UNI.
Though the insitute had a total of 167 students, including 78 girls from across the state, 85 students were taken by their parents as informed by the school authorites in view of the viral fever, she said and added that the three students, two from Palakkad district and the other one from Kozhikode district were admitted at their respective district hospitals and their condition was said to be satisfactory.
