    3 more children with AES symptoms admitted in Bihar hospital

    Patna, Apr 27 (IANS): Amid the raging coronavirus pandemic, cases of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), also known as 'Chamki fever', have been detected in districts of north Bihar. On Tuesday, three children were admitted in the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) at Muzaffarpur after AES symptoms.

    Gopal Shankar Sahani, a child specialist at SKMCH Muzaffarpur, said three children were admitted to the hospital with suspected AES.

    The victims include Sonakshi (3) of Vaishali district, Ria (7) of Sitamarhi district and Piyush Raj (6) of Motihari.

    "These children are suffering from heat stroke and have deficiency of sodium and glucose. Piyush Raj is in critical condition," Sahani said.

    "We already have 6 children having symptoms of AES admitted in the hospital," Sahani added...

      Suspected cases of Japanese Encephalitis, alert sounded

      Amidst ongoing cases of Covid-19, at least five fresh suspected cases of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) have brought the health department on toes. Officials from the State Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (SVBDCP) said that the Central Health team during a virtual conference with the local counterparts alerted the health department and ordered them to take preventive measures.

      The suspected cases have been reported from East Singhbhum district and the Civil Surgeon (SC) concerned has been asked to pay special attention to the most affected areas in the district. In previous years too several cases of JE were reported from the district. In 2013, a maximum 46 cases were reported.

      The District administration has asked civic bodies to inspect households to find and destroy mosquito larvae in different colonies. JE too is spread through mosquito bites. Symptoms usually take 5-15 days to develop and include fever, headache, vomiting, confusion, and difficulty in moving. JE is a serious disease that may cause death...

        PATNA: A seven-year-old boy, identified as Rajendra, died of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) at the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur on Saturday night, taking the AES toll to 13 in state since January this year.

        Rajendra, a resident of Turkichhajan under Kudhani block in Muzaffarpur district, was admitted to the hospital on August 6.
        SKMCH head of paediatrics department, Dr Gopal Shankar Sahni, said on Sunday the victim was brought to the facility in a critical condition...

              Team of doctors inspect East Singbhum’s Japanese Encephalitis-affected areas

              A three-member team of doctors from Ranchi reached East Singhbhum district on Sunday to extensively inspect the steel city and adjoining rural areas for Japanese Encephalitis cases.

              Led by Dr SN Jha, state programme officer for Vector Borne Diseases, the team inspected Parsudih area of the city suburbs, Galudih, Musabani and Potka blocks in Ghatsila sub-division of the district.

              “We are here to carry out control measures for the Japanese Encephalitis which is spreading in the district. The vector-borne disease has already claimed a life in the Ghatsila sub-division recently and has affected seven persons across the district, including in the Jamshedpur block,” said Jha while talking to The Telegraph Online.

              He also mentioned about a 38-year-old woman, dying because of Japanese Encephalitis at Kalchitti village in Galudih on Thursday.

              “Apart from the death caused by the Japanese Encephalitis, seven persons have been affected by the disease. Cases have been reported from the Jamshedpur block, two from the Potka block and one each from the Ghatsila and Musabani block,” revealed the state program officer...
