  • Trump says he is taking hydroxychloroquine

    BY CAROLINE LINTON

    MAY 18, 2020 / 5:30 PM / CBS NEWS

President Trump said Monday that he is taking the controversial drug hydroxychloroquine — an antimalaria drug that the Food and Drug Administration has warned against widespread use — along with zinc as preventative measures against the coronavirus. "I get a lot of tremendously positive news on the hydroxy and I say, hey, you know the expression I've used ... what do you have to lose?" Mr. Trump said.
Mr. Trump said he has been taking a pill "every day" for about a week and a half, and "I'm still here."

But the FDA cautions hydroxycholoroquine has been linked to serious and even fatal heart risks in some patients. The largest study on the drug to date showed it did not improve the condition of coronavirus patients and was linked to a greater number of deaths. Other studies are looking into the potential impact of using the drug in combination with zinc or azithromycin, an antibiotic...

For people with no underlying heart or kidney problems, there is no evidence the drug — at the doses used in the clinical trials — poses serious risks of cardiac problems, said Dr. William O’Neill, who is overseeing a trial at the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit.

“We have decades of experience with this drug,” he said. “It’s one of the few drugs approved for use during pregnancy and for lactating women.”

Enrollment has also slowed in O’Neill’s study, which is focused on testing hydroxychloroquine’s ability to protect people who work in high-risk settings, like hospitals, nursing homes and prisons, from infection. The project was funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which is interested in inexpensive drugs that might be used to fight COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, in developing countries.

O’Neill’s team has given hydroxychloroquine to about 1,700 people so far, with no serious side effects, he said.
Trump never drank or smoked so may not have risk factors in spite of his age. I think that VA 'study' protocol should be investigated.

Thank you, it's a real topic. It is criticized, in animals for giving drugs, etc., on healthy animals. If I share these criticisms, under extraordinary conditions, when we are concerned, through close proven cases, using a product which is a drug, it seems conceivable to me ... In fact, what is an animal healthy on the one hand, on the other hand Chinese medicine and phytotherapy, if they are not drugs, it's nothing?

If it's nothing, why, will it be reported to the O.M.S?

To reflect on this subject, it is necessary to start with this: for a doctor, to take a medicine, it is only when one is sick or? If so, what is the sickness rate by country? Then, it is necessary to ask the question of the access, in certain places, of sick people, that must be done without any constraint or?

To be more concrete, is it normal to take the metro, so public transport, when you are sick and or having a fever?

Then, as we speak of ONE HEALTH, what about the shared definition of sick and sick.
