<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%"><TBODY><TR><TD class=news-content>(IsraelNN.com) A planned work action by Agriculture Ministry workers could halt inspection of produce and animals coming into and going out of the country, as well as severely delay the processing of chicken and other food items that require health checks before being sold in markets. Workers are demanding guarantees that no staff be fired as a result of the reorganization of the Ministryֲ?s Veterinary Service, which they fear will result in the firing of about 10% of the staff.
Workers have informed the Ministry that they will not inspect chickens for Bird Flu, and will not check cows for signs of Mad Cow disease, required by law. They will also not allow the disembarking of some 5,000 heads of cattle from Australia, now on a boat in Haifa Port, and licenses for slaughterers and butchers will not be renewed until their demands are met.
