Swine flu victim dies at RBH

A SWINE flu victim has died at the Royal Berkshire Hospital - three days after catching the virus.

Art Edwards, 31, was in Reading visiting her son and had been staying with her estranged husband Ricky, who lives in Beresford Road, west Reading, when she became ill on September 27.

Mrs Edwards, who lives in Scotland, died last Wednesday, from what is thought to be pneumococcal septicemia caused by swine flu.

Dr. David Buckle, acting medical director of NHS Berkshire West said:

"We are extremely saddened to confirm the death of a patient who was admitted to the Royal Berkshire Hospital with an overwhelming infection and who subsequently tested positive for swine flu.

"This must be a very distressing time for their family, and our thoughts are with them at this sad time. We will not be releasing any further details and we ask that you respect the family's privacy at this difficult time."

Mrs Edwards' funeral will take place on October 13 at English Martyrs Church in Liebenrood Road, Tilehurst.

3 days is a very short period of time.
