  • Scotland : 300 pupils call in sick at flu school

    Source : http://www.thesun.co.uk/scotsol/home...lu-school.html

THREE hundred kids at a Scots school have called in sick during a swine flu outbreak.
A quarter of the 1,200 pupils at Linlithgow Academy have failed to make it in over the past few days after the West Lothian town was hit by the H1N1 virus.

And the council confirmed 121 of the absent kids had flu-like symptoms. Last night school rector David Mackenzie said: "A quarter of the pupils are off - the town has a lot of swine flu so that is something to do with it."

It is believed the absences have steadily increased over the past week with the total peaking yesterday.

The council's director of education Gordon Ford confirmed they had written to all parents to "make sure everyone was aware of the symptoms" but said "there were no plans to close schools".

The news came after the Scottish Government revealed the amount of people thought to have contracted the H1N1 bug last week had doubled to 13,800 from 7,000 the previous week.

Ten people with swine flu have died in Scotland since the epidemic started.

The latest was a 62-year-old woman in the Forth Valley area.
