FIGURES CONFIRM SWINE FLU DECLINE
A total of 115 laboratory confirmed cases of Swine Flu have been registered in Gibraltar so far, Minister for Health Yvette del Agua declared in Parliament yesterday in reply to questions from her Opposition Shadow Neil Costa.
As regards Influenza A there were 29 confirmed cases in October, 79 in November and only three in December 2009.
Meanwhile the number of swine flu vaccines administered in November was 1,732, which almost halved in December - 989 - and fell to just 94 in January 2010, bringing the total number of vaccinations to 2,880.
Meanwhile the Swine Flu hotline received a total of 1,719 calls in the last quarter of 2009 although this dropped significantly in January 2010 to only 25 calls.

SWINE FLU, ONE CASE SINCE FEBRUARY
There has been just one confirmed case of swine flu in Gibraltar since last February, bringing the total number of cases to 116 since the first one was detected in July last year.
The figure was provided in Parliament by health minister Yvette del Agua in response to questions from the opposition?s spokesman on health, Neil Costa.
Last year as concern mounted over the potential impact of a swine flu epidemic, the Gibraltar Government followed the advice of the World Health Organisation and spent ?275,000 on numerous contingency measures in preparation for a possible outbreak.
These included strict hygiene procedures in hospitals and clinics, educational and informational initiatives, a swine flu hotline and a dedicated clinic to administer 60,000 vaccines purchased as a precaution.
As of last month, some 2,882 people had opted to get vaccinated.
Although the swine flu clinic was closed last December, the hotline remained operative, with occasional calls still coming through.
