    As many as 23 dead swans were found in the same location near Lendava yesterday, and it was discovered that they died of highly pathogenic bird flu.

    The Administration for Food Safety, Veterinary Medicine and Plant Protection announced yesterday that as many as 23 dead swans were found in Prekmurje, in which highly pathogenic bird flu or avian influenza (HPAI) subtype H5N1 was discovered.
    "Poultry farmers must limit contact with wild birds"

    It was a case of humpback swans, which the authorities have now already removed. In order to prevent the virus from also affecting domestic poultry, special recommendations for all poultry and bird breeders came into effect.

    "For the time being, only recommendations apply in Slovenia, which means that poultry farmers keep poultry or limit the contact of wild birds with domestic poultry," explained Tjaša Žerdin, a veterinarian at the Lendava Veterinary Station....
