Two bird flu outbreaks were discovered in Romania for the first time after more than half a year
Sebastian Jucan • HotNews.ro
The National Veterinary Sanitary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) announced on Monday the identification of a second secondary outbreak of bird flu in Brasov county, with the H5N1 subtype, at another turkey farm, Bravcod SRL - F5, on the Codlea livestock platform.
This is also located near the farm where the primary outbreak was diagnosed, he informs.
On Friday, January 27, ANSVSA announced that the Animal Health and Diagnostic Institute confirmed the presence of the H5N1 bird flu virus in the samples taken from a turkey farm, with a flock of 65,626 heads, from the commercial poultry holding Bravcod SRL - F2, from the zootechnical platform in the town of Codlea, Braşov county.
On Saturday, a secondary outbreak of avian influenza with subtype H5N1 was confirmed at another turkey farm, Bravcod SRL - F1, located in the immediate vicinity of Farm 2.
Also, a new suspicion of the presence of this virus had appeared at the turkey farm Bravcod SRL - F5, which belongs to the same economic agent, ANSVA informed.
What is known so far about the two bird flu outbreaks in Brașov
The preliminary data of the epidemiological investigation published on Monday show that there is a relationship of causality between the three commercial farms, they jointly use the staff, the means of transport for fodder and for the collection of corpses. Farm Bravcod SRL - F5 has a herd of 113,407 turkeys.
"At this moment, the birds are being killed (in compliance with animal protection rules) and the corpses are being buried in Farm 2, the primary outbreak, and the completion of the action is expected to be on 31.01.2023, in the next 3-4 days to complete the killing and burying of the birds from Farm 1, and later those from Farm 5", the press release states.
According to the cited source, there are nine commercial poultry holdings in the protection zone, of which five farms are with the profile of growing turkeys (two not being populated) and four broiler farms (two of which are depopulated), and in the surveillance zone there are I find another 17 commercial holdings, of which three turkey breeding farms, three broiler farms, one breeding hen farm, 10 laying hens, all of which are permanently monitored through clinical inspections and sample collection.
There are also two slaughterhouses and an incubation station in the restricted areas.
"In the protection and surveillance zones, established following the declaration of the outbreaks, severe restriction measures regarding the movement of people, animals and means of transport are maintained for all farms. No poultry or domestic mammal must enter or leave holdings in restricted areas without authorization from the competent authority. For the holdings outside the restricted areas, the application of surveillance and control measures continues, so that it is possible to intervene quickly, in the event of the detection of symptoms that can be attributed to avian flu", the press release states.
ANSVSA reminds that any increase in morbidity or mortality, as well as any significant decrease recorded in production data in holdings, must be reported immediately to the competent authority or the practicing veterinarian.
Europe last year faced the worst wave of bird flu in its history
The veterinary health inspectors took samples from all farms in the restricted areas, within a radius of 10 km around the confirmed outbreaks. The results of PCR testing for all the samples taken were negative, so at the moment there are no more suspicions of the disease.
The measures provided for in the CLCB decision will be maintained for at least 30 days from the date of completion of the preliminary cleaning and disinfection operations of the infected holdings, in accordance with the applicable legislation.
The outbreaks have been notified to the European Commission and the World Organization of Animal Health (WOAH), the National Institute of Public Health and the National Union of Poultry Breeders from Romania have been informed and a video conference will be organized with the territorial structures for the application of specific control measures .
The representatives of the Poultry Breeders' Union from Romania were summoned to discuss the additional biosecurity measures that will be instituted

20 hours August article: Simona Andrei
Views: 19
It is alert in Olt county. ANSVSA has confirmed an outbreak of bird flu at a commercial poultry farm in Piscani. More than 73,500 birds were slaughtered to stop the spread of the H5N1 virus.
Worrying situation at the end of the year, in our county. According to DSVSA Olt officials, recently, at a farm, the presence of the H5N1 bird flu virus was confirmed in samples taken from bird carcasses. Protection and surveillance zones were delimited around the outbreak, and restrictive measures were taken for the movement of people, animals and means of transport. The birds in the restricted areas are constantly monitored, and in the case of the wild ones, the help of the hunters' association was called upon to supervise the area.
The authorities took swift action to stop the spread of the H5N1 virus. All the birds in the commercial farm were killed.
According to ANSVSA, in Olt county there are nine commercial holdings of laying hens, six commercial holdings of meat birds and two commercial holdings of quails. The units were notified and checked for compliance with biosecurity measures.
