Bird flu is not going away
Poultry farmers in the region undergo numerous inspections
Author: Sebastian Czapliński-June 28, 20230
Since the end of April, over 6,000 black-headed gulls have died in the Radłów commune due to bird flu. Recently, the virus of this disease was also found in a stork in Biskupice Radłowskie. Poultry farmers in the region are increasingly concerned about their business, especially since the veterinary services are announcing numerous inspections.
Since the beginning of the year, nine outbreaks of bird flu have been recorded in Małopolska. For comparison, last year in Poland there were 68 outbreaks, and in 2023 only until June 5, 59 outbreaks were recorded in poultry and 118 in wild birds. At the end of April, the Małopolskie Voivodship Veterinary Officer informed about an outbreak of avian influenza (HPAI) in black-headed gulls in the Małopolskie voivodship. The outbreak was detected in the village of Zabawa-Zdarzec, in the commune of Radłów. It was there that over 6,000 dead black-headed gulls were collected from the post-gravel reservoir and the adjacent areas in just one month. A few days ago, tests confirmed the bird flu virus in a white stork whose nest was in Biskupice Radłowskie (also in the Radłów commune). Probably due to this disease, two young storks that were pulled out of the nest also died.
