The first case of avian influenza occurred in a domestic poultry population in the Oder-Spree district. Affected is an animal herd in Philadelphia, a district of Storkow. The finding was confirmed on Monday by the Berlin-Brandenburg State Laboratory and the Friedrich Loeffler Institute and thus the H5N1 pathogen was already identified last Saturday.
Restricted area established
According to the district's veterinary office, the total of 9,500 Peking ducks were culled and disposed of as a precaution. In addition, the three stables affected must be cleaned and disinfected. In addition, a restricted area has been designated within a radius of three kilometers from the property in question. The radius of ten kilometers is considered an observation area. There the poultry farmers have to house their animals in stalls.
Tenth case in Brandenburg
The first cases of avian influenza were detected in Germany at the beginning of November last year. Since then, the virus has also spread in Berlin and Brandenburg. As the Senate Department announced last week, seven cases of avian influenza have occurred in Berlin so far. Together with the current case in Storkow, ten outbreaks have now been recorded in Brandenburg.
