Confirmation of an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the municipality of Landujan

    Updated on 01/09/2022

An outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza was confirmed on Wednesday August 31, 2022 in a laying hen farm in the town of Landujan in Ille-et-Vilaine.

As part of the measures to combat the spread of the virus, an operation to depopulate the 3,500 hens present in the farm was carried out on Wednesday August 31, 2022 .
State services, and in particular the departmental directorate for the protection of populations (DDPP), are mobilized alongside the breeder who will be compensated for the losses suffered.

To avoid any risk of spreading the virus to other farms, regulated protection (ZP) and surveillance (ZS) zones have been set up within a radius of 3 and 10 km around the outbreak (link to the zoning map attached).

    > The 5 municipalities concerned within the radius of 3 km are:
    • The Lou du Lac Chapel
    • Irodouer
    • Landujan
    • Medreac
    • Saint Pern
    > The 16 municipalities concerned by the 10 km zone, in addition to the 5 municipalities mentioned above, are:
    • La Baussaine
    • Becherel
    • comic
    • Cardroc
    • The Chapelle-Chaussée
    • Longaulnay
    • Miniac-sous-Becherel
    • Montauban-de-Bretagne
    • La Nouaye
    • Quedillac
    • Romille
    > Note that 5 municipalities in Côtes-d'Armor are located in the surveillance zone.
Within these perimeters, all places where poultry and captive birds are kept are subject to specific requirements . In particular, the movement of poultry and other captive birds is prohibited , except for derogations granted by the departmental directorate for the protection of populations.

Currently, the avian influenza virus is actively circulating among wild birds, and its spread to domestic poultry is possible, as evidenced by the situation of the farm located in the municipality of Landujan.

This is why the prefect of Ille-et-Vilaine set up by prefectural decree of August 12, 2022, a temporary control zone throughout the department, which requires individuals and professionals in the sector poultry to strictly respect biosecurity measures (in particular sheltering) and invites them to remain extremely vigilant .
In accordance with the actions provided for in the action plan presented by the Minister on July 29, biosecurity measures are reinforced in terms of transport and livestock workers.

The sanitary measures specific to each zone are detailed on the website of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty.

► Consult the specific sanitary measures
Surveillance of wild bird mortality is also reinforced and the discovery of dead wild birds must be declared to the SAGIR wild fauna mortality monitoring network on 02 99 41 15 99 .
Reminder : The consumption of meat, foie gras and eggs – and more generally of any poultry-based food product does not present any risk to humans.
