    22. December. 2008

Food Management suspects an out-range flock in southern Denmark of being infected with bird flu. The suspicion is due to some unexpected results in blood tests, which have been obtained in connection with the routine surveillance for avian flu.

Food Region South has today closed its crew and will now take more samples, which in the coming days to decide whether it is bird flu.

    - In Denmark we monitor out-range poultry flocks for bird flu, and from time to time, we therefore [find] flocks, which show less or severe signs of bird flu, explains the head of the Food Emergency Management , Sten Mortensen .

At a routine check revealed blood samples from a chicken herd in South Jutland unexpected, giving rise to suspicion of bird flu.

It succeeded, however, not primarily seeking review of chickens closer to the virus, which can be dangerous to humans death if it mutated.

"The flock was not yet studied. The first failed to get the farmer. Secondly, there was a large dog, who stood and g?ede. So the plan is to get it done in the course of the morning," said beredskabschef in F?devarestyrelsen Mortensen stone to the News Agency Newspaq.

He said that the crew are or have been affected by avian influenza type H7.

It is considered to be less dangerous than the feared H5N1 virus, which scientists believe are more likely to mutate and infection from human to human.

"Now we find out if it is less serious or serious. We know that it is not H5. It is another type, namely H7. There are many kinds of viruses, so it's not to say yet," Stone says Mortensen.

He expects to have results ready around noon. If chickens are infected herd, it must be killed.

Mandag aften lykkedes det ikke Fødevarestyrelsen at kontakte ejeren af en hønsebesætning i Sønderjylland, der mistænkes for fugleinfluenza.
