Veterinarians have recorded another mass death of seagulls due to bird flu in Kladensk
    4/5/2023 3:05 PM | KLADNO (ČTK)

Veterinarians noted another mass death of seagulls due to bird flu. The disease was found in 60 birds found at the Hobšovické pond near Velvar in Kladno, informed the spokesman of the State Veterinary Administration (SVS), Petr Vorlíček. The investigation had already confirmed avian flu in the hundreds of laughing seagulls that died at the Trtí Zbrod pond near Mutěnice in Hodonínsk. Since this is a disease in wild birds, no special veterinary measures are taken. Veterinarians, however, warn of the constant risk of introducing the disease into poultry farms and appeal to breeders to observe biosecurity rules.

Around a hundred laughing gulls died near Mutěnice over the weekend. An examination at the Jihlava State Veterinary Institute on Tuesday confirmed highly pathogenic bird flu. According to Vorlíček, the infection was also found in approximately 60 dead seagulls at the Hobšovice pond near Velvar. Highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype was confirmed by an examination at the State Veterinary Institute in Prague.

"In cases where avian flu appears in wild birds, SVS does not take extraordinary veterinary measures. However, in the affected locations, we inform poultry breeders about the occurrence of the disease and the need to comply with biosecurity rules. It is especially important to prevent poultry from coming into contact with wild birds, which are the source of infection," said SVS central director Zbyněk Semerád...

Veterinarians recorded another death of seagulls due to bird flu in Břeclavsk
    13/04/2023 15:06 (CET)

Veterinarians' examination confirmed another occurrence of bird flu in dead seagulls, this time at the pond in Bořetice in the Břeclav region. This year it is the 12th place in the Czech Republic where the infection was confirmed in dead wild birds. ČTK was told by Petr Majer, the deputy press spokesman of the State Veterinary Administration (SVS).

Veterinarians confirmed highly pathogenic bird flu of the H5N1 subtype in three dead seagulls found by ornithologists near the pond. "This year, this is already the 12th place in the Czech Republic where the infection was confirmed in dead wild birds, including the fifth case where it was detected in seagulls," said Majer. Only two cases appeared last year.

The disease has already been confirmed this year, for example, in the case of the death of dozens of seagulls in České Budějovice near Vrbenské ponds or at Zámecký pond in Chropyn in the Kroměříž region, as well as in the Trětí Zbrod pond near Mutěnice in the Hodonín region....

Eight dead seagulls in Litoměřice were found to have bird flu

The State Veterinary Administration (SVS) recorded the death of eight seagulls near the village of Dobrín in Litoměřice. The cause of death was bird flu. SVS workers alerted poultry breeders in the vicinity, who should follow biosecurity rules. SVS spokesman Petr Vorlíček told ČTK.

The H5N1 highly pathogenic bird flu virus was confirmed by an examination at the State Veterinary Institute in Prague. Since the infection has been confirmed in wild birds, no extraordinary veterinary measures are taken. According to Vorlíček, this year is already the 13th place in the Czech Republic where the infection was confirmed in dead wild birds, of which the sixth case was in seagulls.

Last week, SVS reported on the death of three dozen seagulls from bird flu in Přerov. Veterinarians appeal to breeders to ideally keep poultry in closed facilities and protect it from contact with wild birds. Feed and water should be placed inside the building, preferably under shelter, and if possible, poultry should not be fed untreated water from surface water tanks accessible to wild birds. They also recommend protecting outdoor water tanks from wild birds with, for example, nets or fences.

The State Veterinary Administration has alerted the Roudnice Town Hall to the occurrence of bird flu among birds in the region. They discovered a mass death of wild birds. "On April 12, 2023, the Regional Veterinary Administration was notified of the discovery of several dead pieces of wild birds, laughing gulls, in a flooded sandpit in the cadastral territory of the municipality of Předonín. The Regional Veterinary Administration took over the dead birds and then sent them for laboratory examination," the veterinarians confirmed with the fact that the bird flu infection (H5N1) has been proven in the laboratory...
