In Croatia, avian influenza was detected on a farm with 65,000 turkeys in the municipality of Novigrad Podravski (Koprivnica-Križevci County). It is a subtype of H5N8, and according to the signs that have appeared in animals, it is assumed that it is a highly pathogenic subtype.

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) of the H5N8 subtype has been occurring in Europe since October this year. The disease has so far been confirmed in poultry and captive birds in the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, Denmark, France and Sweden. However, it occurs on both commercial and non-commercial holdings. In wild birds, the highly pathogenic subtype H5N8 has been confirmed in the Netherlands, Germany, Ireland and Denmark. In addition, the highly pathogenic subtype H5N5 was confirmed in wild birds in Germany and H5N1 in the Netherlands. None of the identified subtypes pose a risk to humans.
