Yellow Fever Virus (YFV) in Brazil: data as reported of 20 Apr/ data per EW (EW1-16)
2900 notified YFV cases with 681 suspected, 681 confirmed, and 1451 discarded cases; 372 notified YFV associated fatalities with 35 suspected, 234 confirmed, and 103 discarded fatalities due to YFV infection reported nationwide as of EW16/20 April by Brazilian MOH.
Most cases are reported from the Southeastern region which includes the states of Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Espirito Santo, and Minas Gerais, with the epicentre in Minas Gerais.
Taking into account data provided in the past weeks, the number of suspected cases increased in the past weeks (with a decrease the previous weeks) concomitant with an increase in discarded and confirmed cases, indicating that testing of suspected cases is under way and able to verify the diagnosis of suspected cases. The increase in suspected cases however indicates continued spread and vaccination efforts need to increase.
