LIVINGSTON COUNTY — Michigan's first human case of West Nile Virus has been detected in Livingston County.
According to officials with the Livingston County Health Department, a resident became ill after contracting the virus, which is commonly carried by mosquitoes.
"It’s likely they contracted it when they were traveling out of state," LCHD Health Promotion Coordinator Courtney Rynkiewicz told The Daily. "We can’t pin down 100% where they contracted it."
The resident became sick in June, and "is still receiving supportive medical care," Rynkiewicz said.
It's the first and only human case of West Nile detected in Michigan this year, according to the Department of Health and Human Service's most recent report, which was updated Friday, July 26...
