The epidemiological situation of WNV in Volgograd region

In Volgograd 14.11.2011 g. the 2-year-old child reported cases of especially dangerous infections of West Nile fever. Infection has occurred through the bite of mosquitoes that live in porches, in basements and attics of a house.

Failure to follow these preventive measures, like drainage, repair of technical networks and the extermination of flooded basements of apartment buildings and private houses creates favorable conditions for the life of the vector mosquito WNV.

Thus, in the Volgograd region continued epidemic of West Nile season. In the period from July 21 2011. November 14, 2011. in the Volgograd Region recorded 61 deaths* of West Nile disease, including 46 cases in Volgograd (75.0%) and 15 cases in the municipal districts of the region (25.0%).

    Fatalities have been reported.

    Clinical manifestations of WNV.
WNV can occur in the form of influenza-like shape with headaches, fever, sore throat, rash may appear on the skin, may show symptoms of intestinal disorders: abdominal pain, frequent stools, possible long-term temperature without pronounced symptoms.

In any case, the temperature should seek emergency medical attention, since mortality is observed at the late circulation that leads to the progression of the disease and complicated course in the form of meningitis and meningoencephalitis.
