    With the approach of fall, mosquito abatement districts and public health officials are warning of increased West Nile Virus activity.

    The Stanislaus County Health Services Agency reported five people in the county have thus far been sickened by West Nile Virus, with four of those individuals requiring hospitalization.

    West Nile Virus has traditionally remained active in Stanislaus County after Labor Day weekend and into the fall. Last year, three of the 12 cases reported in the county became ill in September and October.​..

      MERCED — Merced County health officials have confirmed the first human case of neuroinvasive West Nile Virus (WNV) this year, involving a resident of Atwater. The Merced County Department of Public Health announced the case on Sept. 8, noting that no further details would be released due to medical privacy laws.

      The confirmation comes amid increased mosquito activity in the region. The Merced County Mosquito Abatement District has detected WNV in 37 mosquito samples across the county. Statewide, 31 human cases have been reported in California as of the same date.​..

        Local health department confirms first 2025 West Nile virus fatality

        The Fresno County Department of Public Health (FCDPH) confirmed Monday Fresno County’s first West Nile virus (WNV) human fatality of 2025.

        To date this year, FCDPH has reported five additional positive human cases of the virus, with more cases expected through the end of October.

        The death marks the third in the state this year, with an additional 43 conformed human WNV cases. Since its identification in California in 2003, WNV has infected more than 8,000 individuals, causing over 400 deaths.​..

          Kings County Health Officials Confirm Human West Nile Virus Death

          KINGS COUNTY, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — A resident in Kings County has died due to the West Nile Virus.

          This is the first human death from the virus in the county this year.

          In total, health officials say there have been five West Nile virus cases in the county.

          The announcement comes weeks after Fresno County reported its first death from the virus.​..

            Public Health officials confirmed the first death of a Placer County resident from West Nile virus this season, a Roseville man.

            There have been 54 confirmed human cases and 5 West Nile virus-related deaths reported in California this year. There have been five confirmed human cases of West Nile virus in Placer County this season and high numbers of West Nile virus positive mosquitoes and dead bird samples.​..

              ​(FOX40.COM) — San Joaquin County officials confirmed its first human case of West Nile virus of the year so far on Tuesday afternoon.

              The SJC Public Health Service said the virus was found on an elderly male patient, making this the 61st human case in California so far and the 14th within the country.

              Health officials said in a statement that the “mosquito-borne disease was first found in California in 2003 and is now being detected throughout the state.​..

                The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has confirmed the first local death linked to West Nile virus this year, officials announced Friday.

                The patient, a resident of the San Fernando Valley, was hospitalized and died from a neurological illness caused by severe West Nile virus infection, the agency said.​..
