Typhus scare in Uva

The Peradeniya University yesterday warned the public to beware of ticks, fleas and mites which were the carriers that caused Typhus fever.
Anesthesia and Intensive Care Consultant of the Peradeniya University Prof. Vasanthi Pinto said that eight cases had been detected in the Uva Province within the last few weeks. One suspected case had died before being admitted to hospital. The cause of death recorded had not indicated as to whether it was due to the disease.
Prof. S.A.M. Kularatne of the Peradeniya University has spoken at length regarding the danger of the spread of Typhus ? especially in areas like the Uva province. In this instance Prof. Kularatne and the Intensive Care team at Peradeniya had been able to bring the situation under control.
