    While South Africa is still coming to grips with the Listeriosis outbreak, another deadly disease is claiming lives in KwaZulu-Natal.

    Three people including two children have so far succumbed to rabies after a recent outbreak in the province. The latest victim was Dumisani Manzini, a 49-year old from Vryheid who died on Wednesday.

    Earlier in the month, a toddler died after coming into contact with a stray cat..

    Vryheid man is the fourth person to die as rabies outbreak takes grip in KZN
    The rabies victim from Vryheid resided in a farm settlement just outside the town and had been bitten by his own dog.

    The KZN Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has confirmed that a 39-year old Vryheid man has died from rabies.

    Kevin le Roux, the Rabies Project Manager for the Department, told the Vryheid Herald that test results that came back from the laboratories yesterday, revealed a positive rabies diagnosis.

    This brings the tally of human rabies deaths in the last two months up to four in KZN, resulting in the Department of Agriculture and the Health Department declaring a state of emergency in the province. There have been seven reported human rabies deaths in South Africa this year...
