Health: Polio cases decline in Angola
Luanda, Angola - Cases of poliomyelitis have dropped drastically in Angola, falling from 33 cases in 2010 to 5 in 2011, the head of the National Immunisation
Section of the Public Health Department, Alda de Sousa, announced here Tuesday.
She said that in the past six months, Angola had not recorded a single polio case.
Sousa explained that the decrease in polio cases was due to the intensive preventive campaigns, including vaccination programmes, held last year.
She said the campaigns were still ongoing with a view to keeping the prevalence figure down.
